The offer to read today

The Italian personal Platinum offer runs from 8 September to 6 October 2026 and awards up to 125,000 Membership Rewards points. An older 250,000-point claim does not describe it. Each EUR 2,000 of eligible spending within six months of issue earns 31,250 points, up to four bonuses. The maximum therefore requires EUR 8,000 in eligible spending, not simply opening the card.

Check eligibility before the arithmetic

The offer targets primary applicants who do not currently hold, and have not held in the previous twelve months, an Amex enrolled in Membership Rewards. Issuance remains subject to the issuer’s assessment. Keep the terms and application date, then verify the issue date that starts the spending window. Another country’s, Business card’s or channel’s promotion does not automatically apply.

Which spending counts

The card fee, cash and advances, penalties, fees and refunded amounts do not count towards the threshold. Plan only necessary, affordable purchases; extra spending to unlock a bonus can consume its value. Track posted transactions and returns, leaving time before the deadline. Credit may take up to eight weeks after the transaction completing each threshold is posted.

Points, statement credit and card cost

Amex lists EUR 500 in Shop with Points credit for 125,000 points. The current fee is EUR 70 monthly, or EUR 840 over twelve months. Using the maximum bonus that way does not make a year free: 840 minus 500 leaves EUR 340 of fees before other costs and benefits. This is arithmetic, not a personal savings forecast or cash paid into your account.

Separate year one from later years

Assess two scenarios: joining with an achievable bonus and keeping the card without repeating it. For award travel, check seats, transfer ratios, taxes and timing before committing points. A high retail ticket price does not establish savings if you would never buy it. The promotion may improve year one, but it does not replace assessing whether the card’s services fit sustainable use.
