Start with the certain cost

The current Italian personal Platinum offer lists EUR 70 a month, or EUR 840 over twelve months. Averaging that with prices in older reviews is unhelpful. Existing holders should read their own contract and notices. A non-preset spending limit also does not mean unlimited capacity: individual transactions remain subject to authorisation.

Retail value is not your saving

For every service, ask what you would buy without the card. A digital subscription you would not otherwise purchase does not avoid its retail price in spending. If lounge entry is already included in a Business ticket, a second access entitlement creates no extra saving. Record costs, used benefits and realistic alternatives separately instead of subtracting promotional valuations wholesale from the fee.

Read hotel and dining terms before valuing them

For credits and vouchers, check activation, eligible venues, use window, required booking route and minimum spending. An unused credit is worth zero in your account. Compare matching hotel rooms, dates, breakfast and cancellation terms, recording any higher programme rate. Space-available upgrades have zero guaranteed monetary value. Never count breakfast twice when it is already included.

Compare equivalent insurance cover

Do not use an insurance limit as the annual value of the benefit: it is a coverage ceiling, not a guaranteed payment. A useful comparison requires a genuinely suitable alternative policy and both sets of terms, including covered people, trip duration, payment requirements, exclusions and excesses. An unsuitable cover does not replace another policy merely because that policy has a price.

An example without promises

A purely illustrative calculation: EUR 840 in fees, EUR 250 of genuinely avoided spending and EUR 100 of credits actually used leave EUR 490 not offset by those items. Points, comfort and time remain separate considerations. Trip count alone does not determine value: two trips using relevant services can differ from ten flights whose benefits are already included. Recalculate at renewal without the joining bonus.
