Start with airports you actually use
Before valuing the tier, list upcoming flights and expected waits. A lounge helps when your ticket qualifies, it is in the right terminal and it is open when you pass through. Early departures and short connections can sharply limit usable time. Count realistic visits rather than a theoretical number of airports covered by the programme.
Access follows both lounge and flight
Frequent Traveller provides access to specified Business Lounges on eligible flights. It is not a universal subscription to every Star Alliance lounge or a promise of Senator Lounge entry. Check the particular facility, operating airline and same-day ticket together. Guest conditions need their own check: the member’s entitlement does not establish access for the whole family.
Read check-in and baggage separately
Business check-in can be useful on covered airlines, particularly when checking a bag. Do not infer priority boarding, fast track or a better seat from it. Economy Basic and Light exceptions are crucial for baggage: status does not automatically turn a no-checked-bag fare into one including a suitcase. Check the allowance displayed for your booking before leaving.
Mileage protection has a scope
While eligible status is maintained, normal award-mile expiry is suspended. That is separate from entitlement to an award seat: preserving the balance guarantees neither availability nor future pricing. Keep realistic redemption ideas and check what happens when status ends. A protected but unused balance does not by itself fund a trip.
What it is worth for your calendar
For each benefit, record likely use and an expense you would actually incur. Do not add the price of lounge entry when the ticket or another membership already includes it. Give no guaranteed value to unpromised upgrades. Compare that estimate with the costs and detours required for qualification. If the calendar offers little use, declining to pursue status can be rational.
