A villa shaped by the lake

At BellaRiva, Lake Garda accompanies every pause. From the garden, the eye moves towards the pool, the jetty and the open water. That sequence captures the character of this Gardone Riviera address: an intimate villa with contemporary interiors and an elegance that leaves room to relax.

The proximity to the lake ran through our experience. At breakfast, in the garden and over an aperitif, the landscape felt like an extension of the hotel.

Design with a light touch

The historic villa houses interiors by Piero Lissoni and his studio. Clean lines and contemporary furniture leave the landscape room to speak. This restraint makes BellaRiva appealing to travellers who appreciate design and still want the feeling of a house beside the lake.

Our Mansard room

We stayed in the BellaRiva Mansard on the top floor. Dark wood details and brushed oak brought warmth to an exceptionally spacious room, while the bathtub in the bedroom and private steam room made retreating upstairs a pleasure in itself.

The official description specifies 50 square metres and a small standing-only balcony with a partial lake and garden view. The distinction matters: this is not a terrace for sitting out. From our room, however, the lake felt immediately present, and the elevated position gave the outlook considerable charm.

The garden, pool and open water

The outdoor spaces are among BellaRiva’s strongest assets. Lawns, mature trees and a pool close to the shore make spending time at the hotel an appealing prospect. The jetty and direct lake access add a relationship with the water that a fine view alone cannot provide.

For families, the hotel lists connecting rooms, cots and extra beds. Availability and the precise room arrangement are worth agreeing before booking.

Breakfast and dinner

Breakfast was one of the highlights. We enjoyed the selection, especially the sweet pastries. With the garden and lake in front of us, there was every reason to let the morning unfold slowly.

We also tried the restaurant for dinner. The food was good and the setting beautiful, although breakfast and the outdoor spaces left a stronger impression on us.

An aperitif beside the water

The bar became one of our favourite places. Sitting close to the water, with the lake opening out beyond the table, gives a drink a particular ease. Towards evening, we would happily have set other plans aside.

Perhaps this is the scene that best captures BellaRiva: a glass, the shore just a few steps away and enough time to stay a little longer.

Service and the SoftLuxNotes verdict

Handling problems was the area that left room for improvement. The staff were polite, but certain issues were not addressed as efficiently or decisively as we expected. At this level, thoughtful service matters most when something needs putting right.

Our overall impression remains positive. The spacious Mansard, breakfast, garden and lakeside bar give BellaRiva a distinct personality. We would choose it for a holiday that lets Lake Garda shape the day, with enough time to enjoy being so close to the water.

Mansard or terrace: decide first

We liked the Mansard for its space, bathtub and private steam room. Its small balcony is standing-only. If you imagine sitting outside your room for breakfast or an aperitif, ask for a different category with suitable outdoor space. We would not book this room expecting a terrace it does not offer.

Our ideal day would leave breakfast, the garden and a lakeside aperitif unhurried: the strongest parts of our experience. Families should request the precise connecting-room combination and the total for every occupant. A list of child-friendly amenities is not a confirmed configuration. For one night, consider your arrival timings: leave time for the shore as well as the overnight stay.
