The date to note is Sunday 1 November
On Sunday 1 November 2026, ordinary admission to Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey falls under the CMN’s free-entry rule for the first Sunday in November, December, January, February and March. The next date is 6 December 2026. This seasonal rule was checked on 29 October; it does not establish bookable availability at a particular time. Reopen the official page before travelling to check for notices.
What changes for two adults
The ordinary individual ticket costs €13 from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027. Worked example for two adults who would both pay full price: 2 × €13 = €26 in admission costs avoided on the free Sunday. This does not measure the saving on the whole trip. If moving your visit to Sunday adds more than €26 to transport and accommodation costs, the admission advantage is already absorbed. Compare the total cost before changing your itinerary.
Reaching the car park is not reaching the entrance
Normal hours in this period are 09:30–18:00, with last admission one hour before closing, hence 17:00. The ticket shop advises allowing an hour between the car parks and the abbey entrance. Work backwards: reaching the car park at 16:45 is not a sound plan for entering by 17:00. Leave time to find your way and reach the monument; the stated travel time does not guarantee an absence of queues.
Keep village, abbey and car costs separate
The village is freely accessible throughout the year; the winter free-entry rule applies to the abbey instead. The Le Passeur shuttle is free, while parking for motor vehicles is charged separately according to duration, time and season. The shuttle ride takes around 12 minutes and ends 350 metres from the ramparts. Those 12 minutes are not the full car-park-to-abbey journey. Before visiting: notices, tickets and luggage
Open the abbey website, read the day’s notices and follow its link to CMN ticketing. Do not automatically buy ordinary admission for a day listed as free; check the arrangements offered for your visit. We have not verified available time slots or confirmed an exemption from reservation. If you receive an e-ticket, download it before arriving: the operator warns of poor reception at the entrance. There are many steps; pushchairs must be folded, and the abbey does not provide luggage storage.
When the free Sunday makes sense
The date is particularly useful if you are already nearby or can adjust your plans without substantial extra costs. If flexibility matters more, also compare an ordinary day on your route: in the example, the admission cost avoided for two people is at most €26.
