A number without a date is not an offer

You need origin, destination, dates, passengers and issuing programme. A generic “Italy–Asia” value is insufficient: direction, connections and every sector’s cabin must be explicit. Old figures of 43,000 or 75,000 Avios do not promise any current departure. Record the actual quote and when you checked it before moving points.

Recognise the Flexi doubling

Qatar’s terms allow Flexi awards at twice the classic mileage when classic availability is missing. A purely mathematical example would turn a hypothetical 60,000 Avios into 120,000. This is not a verified Doha or Tokyo fare. Compare nearby dates, accessible airports and cash tickets using the same passenger count.

Translate the balance into Amex points

At Italy’s 5:4 BA conversion ratio, 60,000 Avios mathematically corresponds to 75,000 Membership Rewards, and 120,000 to 150,000 points. This assumes no existing Avios and excludes taxes, card fees and transfer restrictions. A bonus not yet earned is not an available balance for a seat that may disappear.

Check the product on every flight

A Business booking does not guarantee Qsuite across every sector. Qatar specifies selected routes and possible aircraft substitutions. Check seat maps and cabin details both to Doha and onward. Unverified fleet percentages or supposed automatic midnight seat releases are not a sound basis for spending your balance.

Include cash in the quote

Keep taxes, surcharges and change rules alongside the Avios figure. For Burgundy and Silver, Qatar’s fees rise from USD25 to USD100 depending on the time window before departure. Easier availability does not automatically justify a higher mileage price. Compare the whole journey with an alternative you would genuinely accept.
