Scan a month, then open the flight

Start with a full month in Virgin Atlantic’s Reward Seat Checker and note the dates labelled Saver. Repeat the search in the official booking flow with Upper Class, the real passenger count and exact airports. Open the individual flight: a calendar marker or advertised minimum is not a ticketable final quote.

Read points and cash together

Always compare Virgin Points and the cash amount shown at checkout. An option using fewer points but far higher surcharges may be worse. Match route, passengers, cabin, baggage and comparable conditions; record the displayed currency rather than mixing pounds and euros.

A worked example, purely illustrative

Invented example, not an offer: a comparable cash ticket costs £1,250; the award asks for 100,000 points plus £400. Cash saved is £850, or 0.85 pence per point (£850 ÷ 100,000). Different ticket conditions weaken this comparison. Do not make an irreversible points transfer based on this example.

Check the cost of changing plans

Virgin Atlantic lists a £70 per-person change fee for UK-origin reward flights and $100 or a local equivalent for departures elsewhere; extra points, taxes and charges may apply.
