How it works

Aeroplan allows a stopover on eligible international itineraries for 5,000 additional points: one per direction, up to 45 days. Canada, the United States and China are excluded as stopover locations under the reviewed rule. Availability, permitted routing and continuing from the same city still apply.

From idea to booking

A neat route on the map is not enough. Search the combination through Multi-city/Stopover and check that the programme accepts it. The 5,000-point supplement neither replaces the base award price nor guarantees flights. Begin with the city you want, then verify the routing.

What stopping actually costs

An illustration: two nights at €120, €45 for transport and €75 in extras total €360. Add the 5,000 points and any difference in ticket taxes. Cash at the stop, additional points and flight charges are separate items; keeping them separate clarifies the decision.

The rhythm of the pause

Check the onward departure city, permitted duration and full price before choosing hotels or activities. A city deserves enough time after arrival procedures and before the next flight. The pause works when it offers a real visit within the routing rules.

The chosen city should have a clear role: a visit you want, a meeting or a few days to pause. Then assess the additional points and cash. If the stop shifts the journey to less convenient times, make that compromise visible. Value does not depend on collecting more destinations but on the time you can give each one. Keep an option without the stop alongside it to see what the added city actually changes.

The SoftLuxNotes choice

We would not build this option around a US stopover, excluded alongside Canada and China. Among eligible combinations, choose a place you want and a budget that works. The modest points supplement is the start of the calculation, not the complete bill.
