The boardwalk is only part of the day
For Caminito del Rey in Málaga province, first choose how to reach the northern access and return from the southern exit. The route runs one way from Ardales to Álora: it does not automatically bring you back to your car. The operator allows 3–4 hours for the whole outing, including approach paths. The official price list distinguishes €10 general admission from an €18 official guided visit. These are product prices checked on 28 October 2026, not confirmed spaces on a particular date. Ten or eighteen euros: what are you comparing?
General admission lets you follow the route independently. The official guided visit is for up to 30 people accompanied by a certified guide; the listed difference is 18 − 10 = €8 per person. That does not guarantee a time saving, and the shuttle is separate. The sales page limits a purchase to 10 tickets and requires each ticket to be personalised in your account before downloading it. Choose the day, time slot, ticket type and number of people on the official site. Sources: ticket page; parking and shuttle.
The car park, tunnel and checkpoint are different places
For the Visitors’ Reception Centre car park, listed at €2 per day, the operator recommends being parked at least an hour beforehand. The shuttle stops there. The route page describes a shorter approach walk of 1.5 km, about 25 minutes, or a longer 2.7 km option, about 50 minutes. Do not mistake the ticket time for arrival at the car park: the website asks for at least 30 minutes at the access point beforehand. For a guided visit, follow the meeting point in your confirmation rather than assuming it is where you parked. Sources: route, parking and FAQ. The minimum lead time at the car park does not guarantee enough margin for the bus wait, walk and queue: add those times and allow a further buffer.
A worked example for two adults: €27 or €43
The shuttle costs €2.50 per person separately from entry; its ticket allows journeys in both directions on the same day. Worked example with two adults, one car at the Visitors’ Reception Centre and the shuttle for both: 2 × 10 + 2 × 2.50 + 2 = €27 with general admission. With the guided visit: 2 × 18 + 2 × 2.50 + 2 = €43. Fuel, travel from Málaga and food are excluded. The difference remains €16 for the pair. Bus tickets can be bought online or with cash from the driver; cards are not accepted aboard. Source: official ticket and shuttle prices.
Operating times change with the season
The official timetable lists hours from 09:00 to either 14:50 or 17:20 depending on the season, without a dated table here assigning them to individual months. Plan around the actual slot offered for your day and reread notices before leaving. The usual pattern is Tuesday to Sunday with some special Mondays; the FAQ lists closures on 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January. Wind, rain or maintenance can change plans even on the day. If the operator announces a closure, check your account for the options applying to your ticket. Sources: official timetable and FAQ.
Check age, footwear and time margins before paying
Children under 8 cannot enter. From age 8, an original ID or Family Book is required to prove age; anyone under 18 must have an adult companion. Bring suitable shoes, water and the downloaded ticket: the operator excludes flip-flops and tripods and prohibits drones. If high boardwalks and exposed paths do not appeal, a low price does not make this the right visit; examine the official route before buying. The useful plan is a slot allowing for the approach and return, rather than squeezing the gorge between tight connections. Sources: ticket page, FAQ and route description.
