Flying Blue in 2026: miles, XP and new award fares

Two counters, two goals

Flying Blue miles fund awards, while XP measures status qualification. They are not interchangeable, and a large bank-points transfer does not automatically make you Gold. The tiers are Explorer, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Ultimate. First decide whether your goal is an award trip or qualification through eligible activities.

Italian transfer ratios

Italian Membership Rewards converts to Flying Blue at 3:2: 60,000 points becomes 40,000 miles. RevPoints normally converts at 1:1 to eligible airline partners; check your account. Do not confuse the ratios. Search the award and check cash charges and timing before transferring. Promotional bonuses need terms applicable to you.

Status progresses in steps

Explorer needs 100 XP for Silver, Silver another 180 for Gold, and Gold another 300 for Platinum. Required XP is deducted at each upgrade and a new qualification period begins. Starting from zero therefore totals 580 XP without special provisions, not 300 overall. Follow your own counter and deadline rather than assuming a calendar year.

New awards: read Light, Standard and Flex

From 8 September, new award bookings on flights marketed and operated by Air France or KLM have three options. Economy Light excludes checked baggage, changes and refunds; Business Light includes one 32kg bag but no lounge. Standard provides changes and refunds for EUR70 and a Business lounge; Flex includes changes and refunds. Applicable status benefits remain, so assess your actual entitlement.

Compare awards and promotions

Promo Rewards offer up to 25% off mileage with limited availability. Taxes and surcharges remain payable in cash, and award flights earn no miles or XP. Compare nearby dates and paid fares; status does not guarantee any Business seat you want. Keep terms and the receipt after ticketing, especially for mixed-airline journeys.
