The saving applies to the child’s points
On SAS award flights, children aged 2–11 pay 50% of the EuroBonus points price. Taxes and fees are not discounted. This can help a family with an existing EuroBonus balance, but it does not halve the whole trip’s cost. The rule was checked on SAS’s official child-discounts page on 30 October 2026. This is a guide to the conditions: we have not found or reconfirmed seats on a specific flight.
It needs to be a SAS award flight
The award-ticket page identifies SAS award flights with a gold dot in the results. The points price depends on destination and class; award seats are limited, and taxes and fees are paid separately by card. Do not automatically apply the discount to every fare displayed in points, a partner flight or a mixed itinerary. Before calculating, check that the selected result is actually the SAS award product and read the conditions for the chosen journey.
Two adults and two children: 25% off the total points
An entirely worked example for a Copenhagen trip: two adults and two children aged 7 and 10, travelling on the same route and in the same class. Assume an adult price of 10,000 points; this is not an observed fare or confirmed availability. Adults would require 20,000 points, children 5,000 each, or 10,000 together. Total: 30,000 rather than 40,000 without the discount, a reduction of 10,000 points or 25% of the total points. You still need four seats. Add the monetary total displayed for all passengers separately.
Search for the whole family from the start
Enter every traveller and their correct date of birth, then choose payment with points. Look for the gold dot and compare the adult and child breakdown in the final quote. Do not simply multiply a one-person result by four: it does not establish that enough seats exist. Check each segment, class and operating airline. If the total does not reflect the entered ages, clarify it with SAS before confirming. Record points and the monetary amount with its currency, then compare with an equivalent cash fare for everyone.
For close-in departures, check the booking channel too
At the time of checking, SAS flags a temporary booking-process restriction: award trips on its website must be booked at least three days before departure. For travel closer to departure, the page directs customers to the app; for bookings within three days, the EuroBonus member must be travelling on the booking. This operational notice needs rechecking and should not be extended to every SAS ticket. If the website will not accept the date, do not automatically conclude that the discount or award seats have disappeared.
Decide using the full quote
The useful test is how many points you would spend and how much money you would actually pay. In the example, 50% off each child’s points becomes 25% off for the family, before the cash components. An itinerary requiring extra spending may be less suitable than a cash alternative. The photograph shows Nyhavn, the example’s destination, in April 2023; it documents neither a cabin nor a personal flight.
