Useful for the 7–8 November weekend

Schönbrunn Christmas Market is announced for 6 November 2026 to 6 January 2027 in the palace’s Ehrenhof, or Courtyard of Honour. Entry to the market is free and needs no admission ticket. For anyone in Vienna on 7–8 November, the distinction matters: the Rathausplatz Christkindlmarkt announces its opening on 13 November, seven days after Schönbrunn. These are two separate markets, not one opening date for every Christmas market in the city. Sources: the organiser, FAQ and official Rathausplatz programme.

Three sets of hours, especially after Christmas

From 6 November to 23 December, the announced hours are 10:00–21:00 daily. On 24 December it closes earlier at 16:00, still opening at 10:00. From 25 December to 6 January, hours become 10:00–19:00: the season continues, but not until 21:00. For a post-Christmas visit, plan around this final window rather than the earlier schedule. These are the organiser’s announced hours, checked on 4 November; recheck before travelling.

The new terrace is not always open to everyone

The announced 2026/27 addition is a panoramic terrace with a photo point and bar. The FAQ lists access to the terrace and Sternensalon from 16:00 Monday to Friday and from 12:00 on Saturday and Sunday, until the market closes. The crucial condition is that no private event is taking place: during corporate parties or other closed events, the terrace is reserved exclusively. Do not build your visit around guaranteed terrace access.

Two U4 stations, with a walk to allow for

The organiser suggests U4 Schönbrunn or U4 Hietzing, both with an approximately 600-metre walk. From Hietzing, the route enters through the Engelstor gate. Tram lines 10 and 60 and bus 10A are also listed, stopping at Schloss Schönbrunn. Choose the station that suits your route and check services for your travel day. The market is in the palace forecourt: a map pin labelled simply “Schönbrunn” is not the market entrance.

Free market access, tickets for rides

Free entry is not an inclusive activities package. The FAQ says tickets for the Ferris wheel, train and carousel are bought on site; this guide verifies neither their prices nor availability. Another practical rule: dogs are not allowed, except assistance dogs. Establish these two conditions before planning a visit with the whole group.
