Flexible points or one programme

The first choice concerns the currency earned. Membership Rewards allows transfers to partners permitted by the card; a product tied to one programme needs assessment of that programme’s uses. Flexibility exists before transfer, not afterwards: MR sent to a partner cannot be recalled for transfer elsewhere.

Give the balance a purpose

Identify a realistic trip and search seats for everyone. Convert its cost into card units: 80,000 British Airways or Iberia Avios ordinarily require 100,000 MR, while 80,000 Flying Blue or KrisFlyer miles require 120,000 MR. Include transfer time, taxes and surcharges. A large balance without useful availability is not a ticket.

Concentrate eligible spending only

At one MR per eligible euro, planned spending is the foundation. Italian rules nevertheless exclude categories including PagoPA, prepaid top-ups and fuel under the stated conditions, plus fees and interest. Refunds reverse points. Do not front other people’s bills without a clear repayment agreement and the ability to cover the entire charge.

A bonus does not justify extra purchases

Read the chosen offer’s dates, personal eligibility, minimum spending and posting period. Meeting a threshold through planned purchases differs from buying more to reach it. For shopping portals, check tracking, exclusions and stacking before purchasing; do not treat extra points as already received.

Compare with a simple alternative

Under its conditions, Shop with Points provides EUR80 off an eligible balance for 20,000 MR. Compare that with any genuinely bookable travel award. Deduct card costs and extra spending, keeping money saved separate from remaining points. If a no-fee alternative serves you better, earning more points alone does not make the premium card superior.
