The date is Wednesday 4 November

The Colosseum Archaeological Park announces free admission on Wednesday 4 November 2026, from 08:30 to 16:30, with last entry at 15:30. This is a specific date, not free admission throughout November. The notice covers the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine, with restrictions. Choosing this day to save on admission does not give access to every route normally sold. Source: the official PArCo notice, reread on 3 November.

Choose the ticket office for your route

Free tickets cannot be reserved. Collect them from the ticket offices in arrival order. For the Colosseum–Roman Forum–Palatine route, the notice identifies Piazza del Colosseo, near the Temple of Venus and Roma. For the Forum Pass covering the Imperial Forums, Roman Forum and Palatine, it identifies Largo della Salara Vecchia and Foro Romano 1. Membership Card and Roma Pass holders must collect a free ticket, too. The Forum Pass is not the route including the Colosseum. Source: the event instructions.

The arena and underground are excluded

The Colosseum arena, underground, Commodus Passage, panoramic lift and upper levels are excluded. SUPER sites and the Domus Aurea remain closed. The Domus Tiberiana is open for passage, but its exhibition rooms are closed. If one of the excluded spaces is your main goal, the free day does not meet that goal: compare another date and the relevant official product. We do not apply a regular paid ticket’s inclusions to this free event. Source: PArCo’s exclusions list.

Arrive prepared, without a queue-time promise

The official directions list Metro B, Colosseo, and Metro C, Colosseo–Fori Imperiali. The visitor code describes uneven routes, level changes and steep stairs. Wear suitable shoes and follow only open paths. Free admission still needs an arrival and route plan. Check same-day notices before setting out; no queue duration or specific transport service is verified here. Sources: PArCo directions and visitor code.

Time matters as much as price

There is one hour between the announced last entry at 15:30 and closing at 16:30. That is arithmetic, not a guaranteed visit duration or a queue forecast. Build in a margin instead of planning around the last minute. With only a few hours in Rome, weigh uncertain waiting time against the saving. The evening photograph from 2023 illustrates the monument; it does not mean the free event continues after 16:30.
