Start with the product
For new Flying Blue awards, Business alone does not describe the whole product. From 8 September 2026, flights marketed and operated by Air France or KLM offer Light, Standard and Flex. This guide replaces the expired September promotion rather than presenting it as current. Tickets issued before implementation retain their original conditions. Business Light and lounge access
Light is limited to O/Z booking classes and includes one checked bag up to 32 kg, two hand bags with a combined 18 kg allowance and SkyPriority. Changes and refunds are not included; advance seat selection and lounge access cost extra. Business Light therefore does not automatically provide the same package as a more flexible Business award. Applicable status benefits continue. Official source linked under Sources & verification.
Standard compared with Flex
Business Standard includes two checked bags up to 32 kg each, two hand bags totalling 18 kg, SkyPriority and lounge access. Changes and refunds each cost EUR 70; advance seat selection costs extra. Flex keeps those baggage and lounge allowances, includes advance seat selection and changes/refunds, and has a lower mandatory cash contribution according to Flying Blue. The source does not specify a universal mileage or cash difference between options. Official source linked under Sources & verification.
A useful calculation without invented fares
Open the three options on the same flight and record miles, cash, baggage you need, lounge access and flexibility. A teaching example: if an option needs 10,000 more miles and reduces the cash contribution by EUR 80, that cash difference alone implies 0.8 euro cents per additional mile. This is not a fare found. It does not assign guaranteed monetary value to a future change or a service you will not use. Do not count the same benefit twice.
Partners and older tickets
The new structure does not automatically extend to partner awards. Flying Blue says mixed Air France/KLM and partner itineraries offer Standard only; standalone partner awards remain outside the three branded options. Check the marketing and operating carrier for every segment rather than relying on the airline selling the booking. For older tickets consult their original terms. Before transferring points
Do not compare advertised minimums alone. Search for all passengers on the actual dates and read the summary for the selected product. If a change is possible, compare Standard and Flex using real quotes; status benefits may affect which extras you need. This is a guide to verified rules, with no specific award-seat availability or minimum-price promise. Our Flying Blue stopover guide addresses the separate question of a longer stop between flights.
