Flying Blue arranges stopovers through customer service, subject to award availability. Air France and KLM pricing follows origin and destination; partner segments are priced separately by partner. Entry pricing requires the lowest award class on every flight. The idea needs a genuinely bookable combination.

Design the days first

Imagine, purely as an itinerary idea, Rome–Paris–New York with two nights in Paris. First ask whether you want that time in the city. Then look for flights, leaving space for arrival, hotel and onward departure. An overly compressed pause can feel more like a transfer than a visit.

Budget for the second destination

An illustration: €280 for a hotel, €60 for transport and €80 for additional meals total €420. These are cash costs of the stop, even when the mileage price looks attractive. Compare the entire journey, including any tax difference and the time available.

Count incremental spending against the trip without the stop. A meal already budgeted elsewhere need not necessarily be counted in full again; the realistic difference matters. Changes to hotels or transport can also affect the wider budget. Describe both versions of the trip before choosing. Apply the same care to time: two calendar days are not automatically two full visiting days once arrival, luggage and onward departure are considered.

Approach customer service prepared

Prepare dates, airports, passenger count, cabin and acceptable alternatives for each sector. Ask for the complete itinerary’s miles, cash and applicable terms. Individual flight availability helps preparation; confirmation must cover the stopover combination.
