The old transfer is no longer a current choice

The historic Membership Rewards–Volare comparison belongs in the archive: by 20 September 2026, both programme closure and the final 30 June residual-points deadline have passed. An old 1:1 table is not a current transfer option. For an ITA flight, compare usable payment tools and the terms of the actual ticket.

A measurable statement credit

Italian Shop with Points gives EUR4 per 1,000 MR against eligible posted spending, with a 200-point minimum. For an illustrative EUR400 ticket, 50,000 MR provide EUR200 credit. EUR200 remains payable, and you have spent 50,000 points. This is neither a free trip nor withdrawable cash.

An award ticket follows a different route

Miles & More offers ITA awards and upgrades subject to availability and eligibility. That does not create a direct Italian MR transfer: Miles & More is absent from the checked Amex catalogue. Before transferring elsewhere, establish whether that programme can issue the intended flight. An alliance or commercial agreement alone does not establish an award seat.

Compare the entire journey

For an alternative airline, compare the same cabin, dates, airports and passenger count. Include surcharges, overnight stops and transfers. A cheaper award with an awkward connection may suit you less than a direct ITA flight. Calculate value per MR spent, not merely per airline mile received.

Keep your options until booking

Partner transfers take varying amounts of time and are irreversible. Check the seat, total and conditions first, then transfer only what you need within minimums and increments. If the result remains uncertain, retaining flexibility may be preferable. Statement credit is a numerical benchmark, not proof that paying cash is always better.
