The transition has already happened

Volare ended on 30 March 2026; the window for using remaining points closed on 30 June. On 20 September, advice to spend them “before a future merger” is obsolete. Keep statements, bookings and communications when checking your position. A balance shown on a historic document does not establish current redeemability.

The card now needs a different calculation

Spend & Reward converts value units at EUR0.005 each. An example of EUR1,000 in eligible ordinary purchases gives EUR5 with the basic ITA card, EUR6.25 with Gold and EUR7.50 with Platinum. These are card credits, not new miles. ITA purchases have different multipliers: identify the exact product before applying a return to spending.

Two crediting periods

The extension runs to 31 January 2027. Units earned through 30 September 2026 are credited within the following eight weeks; October–January units within eight weeks after 31 January. The card must remain valid and payments current at crediting. Earlier cancellation can forfeit cashback, so check its effect on your position before deciding.

Separate card benefits from status

Miles & More has been ITA’s programme since 1 April, but that does not automatically turn card cashback into miles. Check airport benefits separately: Amex lists two annual Gold lounge entries requiring a voucher and ITA contact at least 24 hours beforehand. A lounge already included in your ticket is not a second saving from the card.

Decide on net cost

Compare the actual fee, any interest, eligible spending and services you would really use. Extra spending does not recover a lost benefit, and a possible upgrade has no guaranteed monetary value. Request written terms for a card change: personalised bonuses, fees and start dates are not automatically available to everyone.
