Avios for an ITA flight: distinguish points from airlines

The practical answer

ITA Airways is absent from the checked British Airways partner list. Do not plan an ITA award on the assumption that BA Avios will pay for it. Missing search results can also reflect availability; establish the relevant award partnership first. A flight offered for cash does not establish a points-bookable seat.

Moving Avios does not change award partnerships

Combine Avios links eligible personal accounts within participating programmes. It does not freely exchange Avios for any currency or create a Volare or Miles & More balance. Check the issuing programme, operating airline and displayed conditions before moving a balance. Separating those three elements avoids confusing the reward currency with the airline you will fly.

For ITA, start with the current programme

Miles & More has been ITA’s official programme since 1 April 2026. Its site also offers Premium Economy awards and upgrades using miles or eVouchers, with applicable restrictions. Search actual dates and cabins rather than using old Volare quotes. Read miles and cash together; this guide does not confirm seats on a specific departure.

If using Avios is the priority

Compare an itinerary actually found in the Avios programme with a paid direct ITA flight. Connecting in London or Madrid takes time and may add costs: record schedules, baggage, surcharges and refunds. For airport changes or separate tickets, consider connection protection. Your available balance should not dictate the quality of the trip.

The final check before moving points

Rerun the search for every passenger and check who operates each segment. Save the quote and conditions with the date, recognising that this does not hold the seat. Do not buy missing points from an incomplete result. If ITA remains your preference, compare its booking route before seeking an unsupported programme conversion.
